Virtual connections and automated advice must not decide our relationship's future

We can find in a digital space attention, words or availability that do us good. We can also use a tool to understand a conversation, prepare an apology or seek an opinion about our couple. These uses enter our real life through the time they take, the emotions they accompany and the decisions we associate with them.

The problem is therefore not solved by "it's only virtual." But it is not better understood when we automatically declare that any interaction constitutes a betrayal. We must distinguish the lived experience, the nature of the other person, the couple's agreements and the consequences of the use.

Help can illuminate our reasoning. It must not acquire, through its ease of access or its assurance, ownership of our judgment.

The feeling can be real without all the conclusions being so

A person can feel attachment toward a character, a digital interlocutor or a conversational interface. If the experience changes or disappears, grief can exist. Ridiculing it does not help to understand what has been lost: a routine, a way of feeling heard, a space for expression or an imagined presence.

This recognition does not allow us to assume a human reciprocity behind the tool. The system, its character and the person using it do not automatically occupy the same places. An affectionate response does not prove a personal, independent and lasting commitment comparable to that of a human partner.

The distinction makes the experience clearer. We can seek what did us good without having to defend that everything was identical to a couple. We can suffer from a change without using that suffering to make obligatory all the expectations associated with it.

Frictionless availability must not become the measure of a person

A real partner has their own needs, schedules, disagreements and freedom. If we compare their presence to an experience designed to respond to us, we risk considering any resistance as a lack of love.

The useful question is: what do I receive in this space, and what do I no longer know how to receive in our encounter? Perhaps listening is genuinely missing. Perhaps we are refusing the other person's needs more because they interrupt our comfort. Several elements can coexist; the tool must not automatically become guilty or superior.

Building as two requires the place of two lives. An experience that pleases us because it never requires taking another person's freedom into account does not, by itself, provide a model of partnership.

The pseudonym does not remove the consequences of our actions

A romantic interaction in a game, seductive messages or a hidden emotional exchange can affect the couple even without a physical meeting. But their meaning depends on the commitments actually made, the information hidden and what each person understood by the relationship.

When the situation had never been envisaged, we must be able to clarify rather than retroactively invent a complete agreement. This does not make a concealment or a known boundary unimportant. The novelty of the medium does not give the right to unilaterally change the use of resources, time or agreed exclusivity.

We can discuss what is acceptable, what hurts and what each person is ready to live with. The result can be a new agreement or a real disagreement. It must not be obtained by declaring the other person ridiculous because their pain concerns a screen.

A convincing response has not heard the whole relationship

An automated opinion can work from the account we have given it. If it confirms our interpretation, that does not prove that it has verified all the facts, understood the absent person or weighed the omitted information.

Sending its response as a definitive judgment — "even the tool says you are the problem" — replaces discussion with an authority that is difficult to challenge. The person receiving it can find themselves condemned by a file in which they never participated.

We can use the opinion differently: which distinction helps? Which question is missing? Which statement rests only on our version? What would change this reading? A useful response must be able to be corrected. A tool that calls all disagreement additional proof of its diagnosis no longer helps us examine reality.

A transcript or a score is not consent

A transcript can omit a hesitation, misattribute a sentence or lose the context. If a text indicates "agreed" while the person says they answered "maybe," the document becomes an element to verify, not a permission to decide in their place.

A stress measurement or a couple's score is no more sufficient to establish a fault, an intention or the obligation to no longer contradict. We must understand what is measured, with what limits, and what the people actually experience. A number replaces neither the agreements nor the words of those concerned.

Refusing a score does not prove denial. It can be a challenge to its relevance. Conversely, a pleasant impression is not enough to erase troubling facts. The examination keeps several sources open instead of entrusting the entire file to a single form of proof.

Borrowed apologies must become understood commitments

A tool can help formulate words we were looking for. That does not automatically make the apology false. The problem appears when we promise an understanding or a change whose meaning we have not examined.

Let us imagine a very apt message followed, the next day, by the same reproach or an impossible commitment to keep. The partner has not only received an elegant sentence; they have received a new expectation. The quality of the text can then increase the gap between the promise and the conduct.

Before sending, we can check: what act am I acknowledging? What do I understand of its effect? What promise can I actually keep? If I do not yet know how to change, can I say so clearly rather than presenting as settled what remains to be learned?

The confidence given to a tool remains a decision of exposure

Copying the couple's messages into a service is not only reflecting alone on the relationship. It is also choosing a new use of the information. We must understand what is sent, what concerns third parties and the conditions of the service used, without presuming that everything will remain private.

Seeking help is legitimate. It does not always require transmitting names, addresses, intimate details or complete exchanges. A request can retain its meaning with less information. Protection must not, however, be used to forbid someone from seeking safe support in the face of a difficulty or a danger.

The technical questions of retention or deletion must be verified at the time of use. No general formula in the book replaces this verification, and a commercial promise must not be invented by the person giving advice.

Creating an image does not give the body it represents

Transforming a person's image or fabricating an avatar meant to show the partner how they should be can have a real effect on dignity, comparison and intimacy. "I didn't touch anyone" does not answer the whole question.

We must look at the origin of the image, the consent, the person represented, the use and the distribution. A non-consensual sexualized likeness does not become a simple artistic preference because the result is digital. The book does not help to fabricate such images; it invites us to stop the harmful use and to seek appropriate reparation and help.

In the couple, an ideal model must not become a norm before which the real body would be continually insufficient. Expressing one's desire requires an encounter with the other's freedom, not the presentation of a retouched version to which they should obey.

TiTi must accept that its own opinion be examined

The reasoning of this book also applies to the tool that uses it. TiTi does not know an entire person because it has found a chapter again. It must not turn its hypotheses into facts, nor continue a piece of advice when the user's precision removes its basis.

Good help can say: "What you are adding changes my reading." It can acknowledge that a first proposal did not take into account the means, an agreement already formulated or a danger. This correction does not weaken trust; it gives it a more honest reference than displayed infallibility.

What does this tool help me understand, and what can it not know in my place?

Have I used a response as a useful question or as a weapon against my partner?

Which digital experience nourishes me, and what real costs do I still need to look at?

The most precious help is not the one that wins every debate for us. It is the one that makes us more capable of hearing the facts, recognizing other people and choosing a continuation whose price we understand better.
